CHAIRMANS REPORT 2007-2008

Dear Member,

 

I would like to thank all the members for your continued support during this last year and to bring to your attention the very successful year that our organisation has achieved.

Below I have outlined the many successes of the fourth year of Llanelli Community Heritage.

 

  • Producing Llanelli Blue Plaque Guide Book (Llanelli Town Council provided £500).
  • Completed Communities First Se aside grant (£4.557.24). ( Interpretive Pan el and 5 blue plaques).
  • Acquired Communities First Bwlch Y Gwynt grant (£4.630) for 1Heritage Panel and 2 Blue Plaques working with Bwlch Y Gwynt Lost Community Group.
  • Awards for All Wales (£5 000) for display equipment completed.
  • Blue Plaques 10 installed or o rdered and a further 7 sponsored.
  • 5 exhibition events supporting Communities First Felinfoel and Glanmor & Tyisha .
  • Numerous talks to schools and Community groups.
  • Heritage Interpretive Panels 6 installed and 1 in the planning.
  • Charles Church has offered fun ding for a blue plaque and small interpretive panel at Bry ntirion.
  • Second Heritage Bus Tour of Ll anelli.
  • Presentation of Framed Proof to Llanelli Library.
  • Presentations of Felinfoel Heritage Booklets, Leaflets Parc Howard Museum leaflets to Felinfoel Junior School, Morfa School, Copperworks School, Ysgol Strade, Ysgol Babanod, Ysgol Bryngwyn Visitors Centre, Diplomat Hotel, Stradey A rms Hotel, Miramar Hotel, Library, Llanelli Rural Council, Llanelli Town Council
  • Heritage Lottery (£50.00 0) application for LLANELLI COMMUNITY HERITAGE TRAIL to be completed.
  • Christmas Card fund raising.(& pound;800)
  • Model of Raby’s Furnace being produced for the Llanelli Story Exhibition in Parc Howard Museum.
  • Over the year 64 History File articles have been published in the Llanelli Star.
  • Saving of the Capel Archaeolog ical site, Frondeg Terrace

 

Over the last four years Llanelli Community Heritage has installed 6 Interpretive Panels (with one in the planning) and 36 blue plaques. 2007-2008 has been our most successful year with 64 articles in the Llanelli Star and the 1 Fund Runners Up Award for Tourism and Craft..

Mr Huw Edwards, the BBC News Presenter has agreed to become our President.

 

I would finally like to thank the committee, advisory panel and members for their continued support and hard work.
