Projects 2008

Llanelli Community Heritage has now placed 6 Interpretive Panels in the Llanelli area which includes the latest recently installed in Marine Street, Seaside. 

Over the last four years Llanelli Community Heritage has installed panels at Old Castle, Furnace, Felinfoel, Llanelli Pottery (ASDA eastern entrance), The former Grammer School.

The Glanymor - Seaside interpretive panel was funded by Communities First Glanymor & Tyisha. Our thanks must go to Vicky Long and the team at Communities First for all their support.

Our thanks must also go to our advisory panel and the local community groups:-

Dr Malcolm Symons, Robert Protheroe Jones, Byron Davies Anne Dorsett and Carmarthenshire Museums Services, Mark Jewell and staff of Llanelli Library, Kim Sherlock Headteacher, Copperworks School . John Phelps, Dr David Davies, Rev. David Jones, Nevil Williams and the Committee of Glanymor & Tyisha Historical Group, Peter Williams and the Committee of Seaside Community Association.


Projects

Llanelli Community Heritage has been formed to undertake a number of projects, including :-

  • Raby's Furnace
  • A project to restore the furnace and open to the public
  • Historical Models
  • A project to create models of structures from the early history of Llanelli.
  • Parc Howard Museum
  • Lend support and expertise to the project set up to create Story Boards and a Brochure
  • Educational Packs
  • Create Educational Packs for use by local schools
  • Historical Films
  • The production of films depicting chapters in the history and heritage of Llanelli.
  • Building Preservation
  • Various projects to ensure the preservation of buildings that are under threat, such as those remaining at Buckley's Brewery, Upper Park Street, and Bryntirion Hostpital.
  • Interpretation Panels
  • A project to erect a number of Interpretation Panels at various locations around the town and outlying districts.
  • Blue Plaque Scheme
  • A "Blue Plaque" project creating a town trail of buildings (and lost buildings) of interest..
